Award Winning Author Visits!

To celebrate the National Year of Reading, and to mark World Book Day, Bassingbourn Village College welcomed award winning author, Inbali Iserles through their doors.

The Cambridge author, who initially trained to become a lawyer before sharing her love of storytelling through writing, took the students on a journey of her life, her route to becoming an author, and tips on how to become a super writer.

Inspired by the animals she grew up with and the mystical foxes she saw in the city, Inbali used these life experiences to develop her storytelling skills and write the mystical Foxcraft series.

‘I found reading hard at school, I was later diagnosed as dyslexic but have always loved telling stories.’ Inbali told the students.

It was books such as Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Comet in Moominland, and The Honourable Cat, that really captured my imagination and allowed me to experience the magic of animals.’ she added.

Assistant Principal, Miss Manley said, ‘This was an inspirational event for all those involved and a great way to promote reading for pleasure. At Bassingbourn, we recognise that reading is fundamental to our students’ academic success and personal growth and why events like Inbali’s visit, enable us to raise the profile of reading across our school community.’

The assembly concluded with the students’ asking questions about Inbali’s career, stories, and characters.
