Life After BVC
The Government requires young people to continue in education or training until at least their 18th birthday
This does not mean students must stay in school; they can choose one of the following options:
- full-time education, such as school, college or home education
- an Apprenticeship, or other work based learning
- part-time education or training if they are employed, self-employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week.
The vast majority of Bassingbourn students go on to study at one of the colleges within the Cambridgeshire Area Partnership (CAP). Each of these colleges have their own entry criteria and certain courses will require students to have completed specific qualifications. See links on right hand column for details.
NEET figures
As a school we work hard in ensuring that our students progress to an appropriate destination when they leave us. Our figures show a consistently low rate of students who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) and our students are motivated to continue their education through a range of different routes.

Whilst the majority of our students go to a CAP college, a number do attend colleges or employment elsewhere. Below is a snapshot of where the students who left us at the end of the academic year 2021/22 were intending to go, which was collated from information obtained from our students in September 2022.
Being able to get to a Sixth Form college or place of work may place limitations on the decisions that can be made. Students and parents are advised to investigate transport costs before applications are being made.
