Year 6/7 Transition
Ensuring students' transition smoothly from Year 6 to Year 7 is of paramount importance to us.
To ensure students feel settled when they join us in September, we offer Year 6 students the opportunity to have transition days with us at the end of the Summer Term. During this time students will meet their Mentor, enjoy a wide range of different subject activities, and spend time making new friendships.
The 26/27 student transition dates are:
- SEND transition day: for all primary schools except Petersfield Primary School and Steeple Morden Primary School, by invitation only – 25th June 2026 – 9.30am to 12.30pm
- SEND transition day: for Petersfield Primary School and Steeple Morden Primary School, by invitation only – 2nd July 2026 – 9.30am to 12.30pm
- Transition day: for Melbourn Primary School, Meldreth Primary School and Sandon JMI School only – 2nd July 2026 – 9.00am to 10.15am

We are aware that Year 7 is a very important time for students and their parents. The transition from primary to secondary school is a big step and we are very committed to ensure it is as smooth as possible for all involved. A positive start to Bassingbourn Village College will help students achieve their potential and have a successful time at the school.
The Senior Leadership Team and the Achievement Leaders work closely with the Mentors to build a good picture of the academic progress of each student, as well as their extra-curricular activities and wider interests. We want our students to achieve their full potential, not only in the classroom but also in terms of growing in confidence and learning new skills. We aim to also develop students who are kind and considerate of everyone within our community.
